Gastronomy

Zaragoza’s gastronomy finds its origins in the garden. Thus, borage and cardoon have become delicacies of traditional Aragonese cuisine. But, without a doubt, the star dish is Ternasco de Aragón, a flavor explosion you can pair with D.O. wines from the region.

Architecture

Romans, Muslims, Jews, and Christians left their mark on Zaragoza. As a result, the city has become a monumental historical heritage site. The Basilica of Our Lady of the Pillar stands out, the largest baroque temple in Spain and a symbol of the city. Just a few steps away, in the same square, you will find the Cathedral of the Savior, known as La Seo, an undiscovered gem of architectural styles ranging from Romanesque to Baroque.

Also in Zaragoza, you will find the northernmost Islamic palace in Europe: the Aljafería Palace. Declared a World Heritage Site in 2001, it surprises its visitors with its beautiful Arabic-style architecture.

In October, the Fiestas del Pilar turn the city into a large open-air stage, where the Flower Offering moves everyone and the street atmosphere permeates everything. In spring, Holy Week, declared of International Tourist Interest, beats to the rhythm of drums and bass drums, an ancient and awe-inspiring sound that can only be experienced here.

Culture

It is impossible to talk about Zaragoza without mentioning Francisco de Goya. As one of the greatest artists in Spanish history, his innovative character led him to precede the artistic avant-garde. Zaragoza became the world capital of water during the 2008 Expo.
